How our DDoS protection works and keeps you safe.
Always on, at no extra cost
All servers at DeinServerHost are protected by DDoS protection by default. You don't need to set up or purchase anything – the protection kicks in automatically.
How it works
Our DDoS protection is based on the filtering technology of our partner PletX. At its core is a self-developed software built on XDP/eBPF that traces every connection from start to finish – enabling especially accurate mitigation.
Filtering happens in multiple stages:
- Routers first filter out the "rough", obviously malicious traffic
- The traffic then passes through the specialised filtering software (XDP/eBPF)
- Several redundant filter systems increase effectiveness and prevent overload
Legitimate traffic continues to reach your server throughout.
Features at a glance
| Feature | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Permanent mitigation | Filters are always active – not only during an attack |
| Premium connectivity | High-quality network connection for low latency |
| Automatic port learning | The ports you use are detected and handled automatically |
| Symmetric protection | Both incoming and outgoing traffic is filtered |
| Custom solutions | Adjustments are possible at no extra cost |
Especially for game servers
A reverse proxy specifically assists with connections such as Steam, FiveM and Minecraft queries – ideal for game servers that rely on clean status queries.
Many applications and games also need suitable filters to run reliably and securely. These check the content and size of data packets; some use additional methods such as SYN authentication to make sure a connection is genuine.
What you can do yourself
- Keep services and software up to date
- Close unused ports (firewall)
- Open a support ticket if anomalies persist
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to book or enable DDoS protection separately?
No — DDoS protection is active by default on all DeinServerHost servers at no extra cost. There is nothing to set up; filtering runs permanently.
What happens to my server during an attack?
The multi-stage filters separate malicious from legitimate traffic, and your service stays reachable as well as possible. During very large attacks, latency can rise briefly while the filters engage.
Does the protection work with game server queries such as Steam queries?
Yes — a reverse proxy specifically supports Steam, FiveM and Minecraft queries. For games with special requirements we set up matching game-specific filters on request via support ticket.
What can I do myself to make attacks harder?
Keep software and services up to date and close unused ports with a firewall. If anomalies persist, open a support ticket and we will review the filters for your specific case.
Do I notice the DDoS protection during normal operation?
No — mitigation runs permanently in the background and only filters malicious traffic. Ports in use are detected automatically, so legitimate connections are not affected.
