What is a seed?

A seed is a number (or text) from which Minecraft generates the entire world. The same seed always produces the same world – in the same version and edition. That lets you deliberately create worlds with specific features.

Important
Seeds are version- and edition-dependent. A seed for Java 1.20 looks different in Bedrock or in another version. The seeds below are examples with the version in which they work most reliably – it's best to give them a quick test.

Setting a seed on your DeinServerHost server

  1. Stop your server in the client area
  2. Open the server.properties file
  3. Enter your seed at the level-seed= entry:

  1. Save the file and start the server with a new world (an existing world folder overrides the setting – back it up or rename it first if needed)

You'll find diamonds most reliably in the deep layers (Y = -58 to -50). A good seed just gets you there faster – you still have to dig yourself.

Why does my seed look different from the description? Almost always it's down to a different version or edition (Java ↔ Bedrock). Check both.

Can I change the seed of an existing world afterwards? No – the seed fixes the world when it's created. For a new seed you need a new world.
